Weekly progress #36

Greenfeet Haven

Hello, dear Greenfeet friends! May the grass be soft under your steps!

Ludum Dare 56 starts tonight, and I'll attempt the compo as I've been doing the past few years! I'll take two days off next week in order to recover properly. Meanwhile, Greenfeet Haven has progressed well as I dedicated the full week to a new big feature: exploration.

Exploration

The game has slowly evolved over time toward a game revolving around discovery. While the new crafting system is here to give you the thrill of revealing new crafts, the game lacked a sense of exploration. Also, having access to the map in full would make some resources available long before they are of any use. That's fixed with this new system:

  • The map is now masked by fog.
  • You can send your greenfeet to explore and reveal the map.
  • Each part of the map contains something new: a new biome, new resources, special terrain features, etc.
  • Some parts of the map require specific equipment to be explored.

The "discovery loop" is now complete: you explore to discover new resources, then combine them to make new tools to explore even further.

A wild deadline appears!

I might attend a physical event in late October, with an opportunity to do live playtests/demos of the game. So, after the Ludum Dare, I'll be switching the focus to making content, fixing bugs, and producing a build with around 1 hour of gameplay. The plan is to use this build as the alpha version and make it available to everyone who wants to test and provide feedback on the game. If you want to participate, please join the discord server!

That's a wrap for this week. Thank you for reading!

PS: don't forget you can wishlist Greenfeet Haven on Steam, so you don't miss when it's out!
