Weekly progress #37

Greenfeet Haven

Hello, dear Greenfeet friends! May the grass be soft under your steps!

This was a short week as I took a few days off after participating in the Ludum Dare. A lot of the tasks achieved this week are technical and not visible, preparing the ground for next week's main objective: streamlining the game progression to produce between 30 minutes and 1 hour of content.

Better Feedback

A visual notification for discovering axes

You will now get a visual notification when your Greenfeet make a new discovery. The goal is to have a notification that is visible and eye-catching but doesn't prevent you from finishing whatever you are doing before reading it.

Performance

A performance profiler showing 60 constant FPS

I finally found the solution to my longstanding issue with the lighting engine, reducing the cost of updating lights by 10x and also greatly reducing the number of unnecessary updates. One cool side effect is that snow no longer slows down the game's FPS.

Dependency upgrade

All the game's libraries (bevy, egui) were updated to the latest version.

That's a wrap for this week. Thank you for reading!

PS: don't forget you can wishlist Greenfeet Haven on Steam, so you don't miss when it's out!
