Hey! Hope you've been doing well over the past 3 weeks!
This is a not-on-Friday update to let you know I'm back to working on the game. Resting for many days allowed me to take a step back and think about the big picture.
I've always been dissatisfied with how the crafting system was designed. Having fixed recipes for each item isn't very interesting. I want to make it more dynamic and fun. So I've decided to merge it with the discovery system. You will no longer have to do X to unlock Y, but instead, you'll have to combine items to discover new ones. Every recipe you discover will be tracked in a recipe book, and the recipes you know will be automatable through the existing zone system. You can think of it as the cooking system in Breath of the Wild, but applied to EVERYTHING.
Here's a concrete example of how it would play: You attempt to combine a mushroom and a twig at the crafting spot, but it yields nothing. You then attempt to combine a twig and a stone at the crafting spot, and it creates a primitive axe, which is added to your recipe book. You can then use the axe to get wood logs from trees, expanding your crafting possibilities even further.
Each workstation will provide its own way to alter items. Some, like the crafting spot, will offer to combine items together, while others, like the campfire, will offer to apply fire to an item. The possibilities are endless.
I'm still working on the details, but I think this will align better with the spirit of the game. Let me know if you have any thoughts on this in discussion!
Regular updates will start again next Friday. Stay tuned!
PS: don't forget you can wishlist Greenfeet Haven on Steam, so you don't miss when it's out!
